Second Flowers in a Row quilt

The top is done. Another flower quilt. I have reported about the first one HERE!

Both are charity quilts sewn at the weekly Thursday Stitchers (as I have reported in the above link). The project started out with nothing but flowers which was just too much. I like this second version better. James calls it a green brick wall but I think it is nice.

And ... the piecing is finished! Yeah!
Now somebody else will do the quilting and binding.

Sewing lately?

Not much!

Here is a partially done quilt I was working on at the Thursday Stitchers charity sewing. I had cut out enough flowers and leaves to do flowers all over the whole quilt but when I had two rows put together it just didn't look good. Too much. Plan B - to just have green in-between some flowers. Hope I can see it when it is quilted. I am not always seeing my finished quilts.

I did spent quite some time working on the Cotton Robin. Had received a center and added the first border around. I am so pleased with what I did. I just hope the owner will be when she receives it finished in a couple of months. Bummer that I can't show it to you ... yet. And it is on its way to England for the second border.

The April Block Lotto is "scrappy". Here is my effort. Color guidelines: Background should be yellow. Everything else goes. My star point might should be scrappier but I couldn't help myself.

Today I went to my first hands-on quilt workshop. I have been to several lectures at lace groups before but nothing like this. It was fun. Rachel from Staunton VA talked about "Scrapology", which was funny since I just had made the scrappy Block Lotto block. Towards the end of the time everybody brought their products to a table and Rachel discussed all the possibilities what to do with these pattern. She encouraged to not relay on a pattern but just take the basic and run with it.

I decided what I have to do with my leftovers, get organized and save space. All I need now is some time (big grin over my face and giving a sigh).

October threads

No September threads since I was in Europe pretty much the whole month. The Colonial Lacemakers had a lot going on and I really missed being a part of it. Missed my sewing friends too.
But then there was the CR Quilter's meeting on Oct 13. The 9 of us had a great time learning from each other and sharing. I explained what I learned doing the September (Tulips) and October (Twinkle Star) Block Lotto patterns. Everybody liked them. I also shared my black+white almost finished stack and whack.

Janet talked about the November project which we will do at her house next month.

Jane is our oldest member with 90(+?) years but she has a great sense of colors and everybody always loves her creations.

The Church Mice Quilting Group met as always same day in the evening. Interesting show and tell.

Because all know that I am a lacemaker somebody had brought this. She had found this between the layers in an old frame. Handmade Honiton lace. How lucky!

Sometimes there is show and tell at the Thursday Stitchers too. All hand appliqué and hand quilting.

Sharing my personal finished top.

My present project at the Stitchers. Same technique as the black and white above, just different fabric. The big piece in this photo is the original fabric. Above three stack+whack blocks.

Because of the 4 identical squares you have to choose from for possibilities for each block. Just turn the squares.

And this is it for this month so far.

June threads

June 8 - second Monday of the month - Colonial Lacemakers meeting in Williamsburg. It was lovely to see these friends again. I don't see them that often. And I came back very happy because ... look! I almost finished another Chrismon.

Finished it at home the same evening. Great feeling! I know the tread could be just a little thicker. Selecting the right thread is the most difficult part of bobbinlace to me. Since I have to change the size of the pricking to make it fit my advent calendar I can't go by the directions.

Next day! Monthly meeting of the CR Quilters. Show and tell! Sharon has made the wallhanging I am going to tackle next for my church's raffle but that will be a separate blog.

Lynda made a Spider-Man quilt for a nephew (I think?). Lots of fussy cutting.

Last month I had shown everybody how to make 4 log cabin blocks in one go (tutorial tab above). Here is a result. Lorraine (I think) made a table runner and a pillow. Seeing that made me happy.

This month' theme: Block Lotto. I have a good stash of orphan blocks, ha-ha. I also demonstrated the May and June pattern. You can learn so much from Block Lotto because the directions are so great.

Same day evening: the annual Church Mice potluck picnic at Bonnie's house. As always it was very nice. But of course there is always show+tell too.

Stitchers-for-a-Cause! Finally finishing another project. It started that somebody had donated 6 machine embroidered pieces I was asked to do something with.

I know one of the centers goes the other way. I was told I should leave it like that. Adds interest. I also know that top and bottom borders need to be re-done. I wasn't careful enough with those bias edges.

Yup, this is what I got in March. They were layered with batting and backing and sewn in triangles. What was somebody planning to do? I took them apart and then they "lived" in my basket for a while until I got the idea.
